Diabetic Menu Planner – For A Healthy Living
Filed Under (Diabetic Menu Guide) by admin

A well planned diabetic menu is the perfect way to combat the problem. Diabetes cannot be cured completely but can be controlled by altering the lifestyle and behavior. Diabetic menu planner can be implemented by using the “create your plate” and “food pyramid” techniques. The first method is a pretty simple one which needs you to divide the dinner plate in to 3 sections. First draw a line along the center of your plate. Now again divide one half to 2 sides. A healthy diet will fill the largest portion of the plate with non-starchy items like spinach, cabbage, lettuce and other vegetables. The smallest portion should be covered with whole grain bread, rice, pasta. One section can be dedicated to non-vegetarian lovers by filling it with chicken breast, broiled meat, eggs, and tuna. This diabetic menu planner should be carried out everyday and when combined with regular exercise, it forms a perfect blond to tackle diabetes.

The diabetic food pyramid is yet another way to plan meals which divide the food in to six groups. The pyramid is filled in the following way. The bottom most is filled by grains and beans followed by fruits and vegetables. It is then followed by milk and meat. The top most position is occupied by oil and sweets containing high sugar and fat content. This suggests that the food items placed at the bottom most level should be consumed in a large scale. As the level increases at the top, the frequency of taking those food items must be reduced gradually. The top most level is occupied by oil and fats which indicates that they must be totally ignored. Alcohol must not be consumed under any circumstances. The individuals are encouraged very much to drink 8 glasses of water everyday that is highly recommended in the diabetic menu planner to regulate the blood sugar level.

Since a meal/course or beverage can include more than one group, you need to try and know what you are being served and to minimize the bad contents as much as possible. It is always easier to cook your own meals, but it is not impossible to eat out and still follow these guidelines, the core of diabetes diet is just be watchful of what you eat and ask questions at restaurants.

The diet following the pyramid provides a range of servings one is allowed to eat of each type of food. If you consume the minimal number you will eat about 1600 calories a day. This is a good number of calories for a steady loss of weight and keeping your current weight for women, so eating the lowest amount is recommended. The highest amount permitted reaches 2800 calories and is suitable for sporty men only. The exact amount of calories and servings you want to eat is dependant on your goals and exact diabetic situation.

A diabetic also needs to count carbohydrates and not only calories. So this makes a few changes in the order of the pyramid. Also the values and sizes of the servings are different in the diabetic diet scheme. The idea is to make the amount of carbs in each serving alike, so it is easier to monitor.
